March is indeed celebrated in most countries as the month of happiness. If January is the month of new beginnings and hope, and February the month of love then it’s probably rather apt that March should be the month celebrating happiness.
But what is happiness? Many of us are facing the reality of failed new year’s resolutions and new beginnings gone terribly wrong, disastrous valentine’s dates, and then waking up one good morning to a war in Europe!
With everything going on in the world, at home and in our personal lives it is often very difficult to even think about something like happiness. Some of us may even get irritated if friends, family, colleagues etc say things like, “Don’t worry be happy…”, or “It’s not so bad…”, or “Look at the bright side…” etc.
Unfortunately/fortunately (for those the glass is half full / empty of us), happiness is a “thing” it is vitally important not only to our daily survival but also for our long-term health (mental and physical).
In this month’s blog Lauren will be discussing happiness in three sections. Section I deals with some basic info relating to happiness, part II deals with the “How” of happiness while part III will give a short “portrait” of what a happy person looks like.
I hope these articles will not only shed some light on this enigmatic concept we call happiness but also help in some way in creating a happier, more content you/us.
I would like to end today’s blog with the lyrics of one of my favourite songs written by Charlie Chaplin. In the final scene of Modern Times, Charlie and the gamine set off down the road to a new life. When they get up off the grass verge to go, he pauses and points to the corners of his mouth, indicating that she should smile. The film soundtrack is only instrumental, but the Turner and Parsons lyrics must have been inspired by this scene.
